Newcastle are still in the hunt for Diego Rolan.

According to a report in The Sun the Bordeaux striker is waiting on word from Newcastle before completing a deal to join Fulham.

Rolan has been seen at Fulham’s training ground and passed a medical but is holding out hope of getting the chance to play in the Premier League.

Newcastle have still to add a striker since winning promotion with a striker and goalkeeper the signing priorities with less than a fortnight to go until the competitive action begins.

Rolan has never been a prolific scorer but is a Uruguayan internationalist with three seasons of top team football at Bordeaux on his CV. In the 2014/15 season he got his best scoring haul of 15 goals.

Tammy Abraham was Benitez’s first target but the Chelsea striker opted to go on loan to Swansea with Newcastle’s striking options recently reduced by Daryl Murphy’s move to Nottingham Forest.
