Newcastle are stepping up their interest in Jacob Murphy.
According to a report in The Mirror a deal worth around £8m is under discussion to take the Norwich winger to St James’ Park.
Murphy was a stand out in The Championship then finished the season starring in the finals of the U-21 European Championships where England lost out on a final place to Germany.
Rafa Benitez is looking to bring in experienced players for Newcastle’s return to the top flight but was impressed enough by Murphy to believe that he is ready to step up.
In January Benitez was disappointed when Newcastle were unable to bring back Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace with the Newcastle boss looking to bring in a quality winger to his side.
Norwich would prefer to hold on to Murphy but are resigned to losing him after his performances for England at the European Championships in Poland.
