Calum Chambers is close to joining Crystal Palace.
According to a report in The Guardian the Arsenal defender is on the brink of becoming Frank de Boer’s first permanent signing at Selhurst Park.
Chambers was linked with a move to Newcastle at the end of the season but with Arsenal looking for £25m their interest dropped.
Palace opened the bidding at £16m but with add-ons the deal could rise to above £20m allowing the former Southampton defender to switch across London.
Chambers spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and is one of half a dozen players that Arsene Wenger is looking to drop from his first team squad.
Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson have been left out of Arsenal’s pre-season preparations and fit the criteria that Rafa Benitez is looking for to survive in the Premier League.
Both defenders have less than a year left on their contracts and are expected to be on the move before the transfer window closes.
