Newcastle fans were quick to leap onto Rafa Benitez’s transfer comments at lunchtime today.
With just two new faces in the door since winning promotion, Eibar’s Florian Lejeune and Christian Atsu from Chelsea, fans are becoming restless with Benitez’s comments about Mike Ashley adding to the uncertainty.
An uneasy peace broke out between the two men at the end of last season when a firm plan seemed to be hatched to ensure Newcastle steered clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
I’m not confident on Mike Ashley keeping his word. Not the slightest bit. Just give Rafa what he wants. #NUFC

“Hopefully, Mike can keep his word and we can do what we want to do”
It’s almost as if Rafa doesn’t even know Mike Ashley— Simon (@SimonR83) July 17, 2017
That quote really sounds like Mike Ashley has reneged on that close season statement. I will bin my ST if Rafa goes

When Benitez recently spoke out about the crazy transfer market it let to speculation that he may walk out but in the modern game it is almost unknown for a manager to resign and walk away from a pay off.
While the lack of new faces continues there is bound to be speculation about the state of the relationship between the two main men at St James’ Park with the fans quite clear on who is the villain of the piece.
