Despite reports yesterday that Emmanuel Riviere was on his way to Turkey it’s believed that Metz are keen to sign the striker.

According to a report in L’Equipe the French side are ready to make a move for the out of favour Newcastle striker.

Riviere spent last season on loan at Osasuna but failed to score a single goal in eight starting appearances and seven as a substitute.

Newcastle paid Monaco £5m for the striker in 2014 but almost from the get-go it looked a questionable signing.

One goal in 26 Premier League appearances as Newcastle crashed to relegation justified those concerns with Rafa Benitez quick to push Riviere out on loan when he took charge.

Benitez is looking to cut at least half a dozen players out of his first team squad and will happily miss out on a transfer fee in order to cut out the final year of Riviere’s contract from the pay-roll.
