Leicester are expected to make Newcastle target Islam Slimani available for sale.

According to a report in the Leicester Mercury the 29-year-old doesn’t feature in Craig Shakespeare’s plans as he prepares to bring in Kelechi Iheanacho from Manchester City.

Leicester paid a club record fee of £29m to Sporting Lisbon last summer for the striker but he failed to make much of an impact in his first season in England.

Shakespeare is certain to go with Jamie Vardy as his first choice striker leaving Claudio Ranieri signing Slimani out in the cold.

Rafa Benitez has struggled to get deals over the line during the summer and is expected to make a bid to bring the Algerian to St James’ Park on loan.

Leicester know that they won’t get anything like their £29m fee returned and could let Slimani go out on loan to get him off the wage bill and hopefully into the shop window.
