Siem de Jong is determined to kick-start his Newcastle career- three years after arriving as a high profile signing from Ajax.

According to an interview in The Chronicle the attacking midfielder has put his injury problems into the past following last season’s loan stint at PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch club would have been happy to make that deal permanent but couldn’t get close to the wages that the 28 year old enjoys with Newcastle.

With new faces thin on the ground, especially in midfield a fully fit de Jong would be a welcome addition to Rafa Benitez’s first team pool.

De Jong still has three years left on his contract and is determined to make an impact after starting just four Premier League matches since being signed by Alan Pardew.

After starting in the friendlies against Hearts and Preston de Jong will be hoping to impress in tonight’s friendly away to Bradford City.
