Rafa Benitez says that he is committed to Newcastle despite the frustrations of a crazy transfer market.

With television money pushing fees and salaries through the roof the Premier League of 2017 is an entirely different beast to the transfer window that Newcastle operated in back in 2015.

That campaign ended in relegation with Benitez working round the clock to bring in players to improve on last season’s promotion winners.

News that Gylfi Sigurdsson’s value has virtually trebled over the last twelve months puts in perspective Newcastle’s attempts to bring players in with Norwich and Middlesbrough reluctant to sell Jacob Murphy and Adama Traore.

We know where we are,” Benitez said speaking to The Chronicle. “Everybody wants to see a lot of players signed up already but we have to keep working.

We can do nothing else. We have to find the players we want and hopefully we can do it.”

Newcastle’s season kicks off on Friday with a visit to Hearts where Florian Lejeune is likely to be the only addition to last season’s squad.

It took the best part of six weeks to get that transfer from Eibar completed with Benitez still looking to bring in new faces for all areas of the team.
