Rafa Benitez has added to Newcastle’s goalkeeping mystery by claiming that Karl Darlow could still have a future at the club.

According to a report in The Chronicle Darlow will be given a chance in the coming weeks as the Newcastle boss works out his first choice XI.

Darlow was left out of the squad that spent last week in Ireland then was given a half hour run out against Preston before being substituted by Freddie Woodman.

With Benitez open about his search to bring in a new goalkeeper it seemed certain that Darlow would be on his way but after being linked with Reading and Middlesbrough both of those clubs have signed new keepers.

Rob Elliot appears to be the man in possession but with Darlow and Woodman about and a new keeper expected to come in it won’t be until the transfer window closes that the first choice keeper is known.
