Newcastle fans have given a mixed reaction to the prospect of the club signing Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund.
Whether the move will be a permanent or loan deal has still to be established although it could be a loan move that includes clauses that will make it permanent.
While fans are keen to bring in new faces they’ve seen enough players come and go over the last dozen years to fill a stand at a non league club.

After the confidence that flowed following promotion and a positive meeting between Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez confidence is in short supply among fans.
Merino may prove to be an inspired signing but expectations were set on established Premier League players coming in to drive the club forward rather than nurturing Bundesliga reserves.
Expectations may be light on Merino but as the visit of Spurs on August 13 gets closer the pressure on the Newcastle board to provide a team worthy of the Premier League increases.
