Newcastle are confident of completing the signing of Florian Lejeune this week.
According to a report in The Chronicle Rafa Benitez is expecting the formalities to be completed over the next couple of days.
Lejeune is expected to go straight into the first team despite the consistent form of Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark in the promotion winning season.
After helping Eibar to finish in the top half of La Liga last season Benitez views the 26-year-old as a key member of his side as he attempts to do a similar job at Newcastle and secure a place in the top ten.
Benitez has been busy in the transfer market since promotion was secured and won’t be leaving anything to chance after Newcastle’s recent disappointing Premier League campaigns with every area of the squad to be strengthened with players ready to go straight into the team rather than coming in as squad fillers.
