Montpellier have made an enquiry about Newcastle keeper Tim Krul.

According to a report in The Chronicle the French side are ready to make a move for the out of favour keeper.

Last season Krul was out on loan at Ajax then AZ Alkmaar with the door virtually closed on his 11 year Newcastle career despite some seasons of sterling service.

Rafa Benitez has made it clear that he is in the market for a new goalkeeper despite having four experienced keepers at St James’ Park at the end of last season.

With a year left on his current deal Newcastle will only be able to pick up a token fee with the French club having to use their budget to meet the players wages.

Last week Newcastle sent Matz Sels on loan to Anderlecht for the season as Benitez begins the process of whittling down his bloated first team squad.
