Lee Charnley is the man responsible for easing the fears of Rafa Benitez and Mike Ashley.

According to a report in The Express the Newcastle United managing director is expected to sooth relations between the two men by delivering the players required for the return to the Premier League.

So far Christian Atsu is the only new player to have signed up for the new season tensions have risen with Benitez frustrated by the failure to bring in new players while Ashley doesn’t want to be accused of holding on to the money.

At the end of last season Ashley and Benitez met face to face with the outcome of that meeting giving fans hope that new faces would soon be on their way.

With no major championship being played in the summer transfer business should be more straightforward but that hasn’t proven to be the case on Tyneside.

Completing the deal to bring in Eibar defender Florian Lejeune would be a big breakthrough in the transfer market with a successful conclusion to interest in Pepe Reina of Inter Milan also a priority.
