Adam Armstrong is set to be sent out on loan again next season.

According to a report in The Chronicle the England u-20 striker will go out on loan to a Championship side rather than bolster Rafa Benitez’s first team squad.

Armstrong was at Barnsley last season and did enough to earn a place in the England squad that won the u-20 World Cup but that won’t open up a first team place at St James’ Park. In season 15/16 Armstrong was on loan to Coventry.

Newcastle’s attempt to bring in Tammy Abraham highlighted that Armstrong isn’t in Benitez’s immediate plans with the Chelsea man scoring 26 times in the Championship compared to Armstrong’s six.

With a first team squad currently standing at 34 players following back-to-back seasons of relegation and promotion Armstrong is likely to be one of many Newcastle players featuring in the EFL next season knowing that it’ll take a season of Abraham like scoring to give him a chance of making the first team at St James’ Park.
