Newcastle have joined the race to sign Andy Robertson.

According to a report in the Hull Daily Mail the defender is on Rafa Benitez’s wish list for next season’s Premier League campaign.

Robertson has suffered relegation twice since moving from Dundee United in 2014 but his reputation has soared despite Hull’s problems.

Liverpool were strongly linked with a deal for the defender towards the end of last season but talk of that move has died down although Robertson seems certain to leave Hull before they begin life back in the Championship.

Benitez wants to put an emphasis on his side having a core of experience that knows their way around the Premier League with 23-year-old Robertson fitting that requirement to a tee.

Hull are believed to be looking for £12m for the Scotland internationalist but are likely to negotiate with the first offer of £10m that they receive for the player that they paid Dundee United £2.8m three years ago.
