Newcastle are among the clubs watching Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic, according to the Daily Mail. Teams in four different countries are also keeping tabs on the 22 year old.

Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, La Liga sides Sevilla and Espanyol, Italian club Torino, as well as Crystal Palace, West Brom and the Magpies are all believed to be interested in the Croatian.

The centre back was on the verge of leaving the Scottish champions in the summer with a move to Torino all but agreed. The deal however collapsed after the Serie A side got cold feet over the the £3.75million transfer fee, as well as having concerns over the player’s injury record.

Now rated at £9million, and without the knee problems that hindered his first season at Celtic Park, Simunovic has become firmly established as a first team player under Brendan Rodgers, making 29 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

It seems that Newcastle will have to persuade the Hoops to sell a player who is now an integral part of the the Scottish club’s plans, and they will have to fight off a number of other teams to land him.
