Dwight Gayle has promised to stay among the goals next season as Newcastle rejoin the Premier League.

The striker did what he was paid for with 23 promotion winning goals following his £10m summer switch from Crystal Palace.

Getting half that amount in the Premier League next season would go a long way to keeping Newcastle clear of the relegation battles which have marred recent campaigns in the top flight.

Gayle has had limited exposure to playing in the Premier League but if Rafa Benitez is able to sign the players that he wants the 26-year-old is confident that he can continue to find the net.

The most important thing for us was to get back up, but you have your personal targets and I reached that,” Gayle told The Chronicle. “Hopefully I can push on for next season.”

Reflecting on Sunday’s events he admitted: “It’s my favourite season and my favourite end to a season.

I was saying to a few of the boys: ‘You’re going to remember this for the rest of your lives.’

Winning things is the most important thing, and the fact that we won the Championship is a great achievement. We’re all buzzing about it.”

When it comes to stats Gayle scored a goal every 93 minutes in the Championship and showed the all round striking ability to justify his £10m transfer fee.

Benitez will certainly be looking to bring in a striker during the transfer window but with Gayle in place one source of goals seems assured for next season.
