Newcastle attacking midfielder Siem De Jong is hopeful of making a return to Newcastle next season in order to play a full part in what could be their return to the top flight of English football.

The Dutch international has been at PSV Eindhoven this campaign after two injury ravaged campaigns on Tyneside. He had a difficult start on his return to his homeland with just two league starts in the first half of the season, but has begun to find his feet since the New Year.

He has scored four goals in his last four games after being given a run in the PSV team, but talking after their 2-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday, the 28 year old revealed he wants to stay at St James’ Park.

“I hope they will be crowned champions, but even if they were not I would like to play a part in their campaign next season. They have made a good plan and I would like to be part of it.”

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is seeking a creative midfielder in the summer with Fulham’s Tom Cairney being heavily linked with a move to Tyneside and it remains to be seen whether De Jong features in the Spaniard’s plans for next season.
