Newcastle midfielder Mo Diame has admitted that Magpies fans have yet to see him perform at his full potential for the club.

The Senegalese international has been a regular starter for manager Rafa Benitez since arriving from Hull City for £4.5million in the summer, but he has struggled to hit the heights of his last campaign with the Tigers.

He told the Chronicle that he is focusing on helping Newcastle gain promotion to the Premier League rather than fixating too much on his own displays in a Newcastle shirt:

“I try to do my best. Even if I am not at the top of my level, I try for the team. The most important thing is to get our target which is promotion. After that we’ll see what happens next season.”

The 29 year old has scored six goals, and provided two assists in 34 games for the Magpies this season. Playing for Hull in the Championship last campaign though, he scored ten goals, and provided four assists in 45 matches. If he finishes the season strongly, he could still match his last season efforts and in the process help Newcastle secure promotion to the Premier League.
