Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez believes that winning the Championship title could transform the mentality of Newcastle players heading forward.

The Spaniard said very few players in the squad had won a trophy, and it could instil a winning attitude among the squad if they go on to finish top of the table. He is quoted by the Chronicle as saying he thinks the opportunity to win a title does not come around very often:

“I do believe 100 per cent this could be the start of something special. Just look at this season. We are top, but the majority of the players have never won a trophy. We’ve got a month to fight, eight more games, and then we can have a chance to win a title. That can be the beginning of something very special.”

The Magpies are currently one point ahead of second placed Brighton & Hove Albion with just eight league matches left in the season. The Newcastle players will still be mindful that getting promotion is the main priority before thinking of winning the league.

Huddersfield Town are seven points behind but could close the gap to four points if they win their game in hand. Making sure an instant return to the Premier League is secure will be the club’s main priority, and then they can set their sights on a trophy.
