As confirmed on the club’s official website, Newcastle United have allowed defender Alex Gilliead to leave the club on loan this January.

The 20-year-old has followed the likes of Freddie Woodman, Sean Longstaff and Callum Roberts out the door at St. James’ Park on a temporary basis, with the trio having joined Scottish side Kilmarnock last week.

Rather than move north of the border however, Gilliead has moved to Yorkshire to link up with League One side Bradford City until the end of the current campaign. Having recently returned from Luton Town, it’s another step in the England U20 man’s development.

The Bantams are currently on course to battle for promotion from the third-tier, sitting in fourth position and hopefully Gilliead will help in their aspirations of making it back into the Championship.

He impressed during his half-season loan with the Hatters, notching twice in 21 games during his time at Kenilworth Road.
