As the January transfer window deadline fast approaches, Newcastle United continue to be linked with a number of players from around the footballing globe, having yet been unable to add anyone to Rafa Benitez’s ranks.

However, Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed the Magpies have made a bid for Leganes attacking midfielder Gabriel Pires, one that would reportedly see them retain his services for the rest of the campaign, before making the deal permanent pending promotion to the Premier League.

Currently sat in second position, the Toon Army are currently light in attacking midfield areas and the 23-year-old Brazilian could be a relatively big name addition to the ranks on Tyneside. The former Juventus man only joined Lega in the summer on a permanent basis, though appears to have impressed Benitez, who knows La Liga well.

He’s notched 2 goals in 17 games thus far, though could help provide some much-needed creativity to the black and white cause should a deal be agreed with the Madrid outfit.
