Lee Ryder has provided an update on the situation of Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet during his loan stint at Ligue 1 side St. Etienne.

The Chronicle’s Chief Sports Writer has revealed the 26-year-old will not be returning to Tyneside despite struggling to wholly convince upon his return to France. It’s been a strange year for the Senegal international, who only joined the Magpies from Bordeaux around 12 months ago.

However, after failing to get into the team at St. James’ Park, the African midfielder was quickly loaned out back to France, though has scored just once and assisted another in his 11 appearances thus far.

The deal he penned with the Toon Army back 12 months ago runs until 2021, though doesn’t naturally appear to have a future under Rafa Benitez as the Championship leaders continue to hunt for midfield reinforcements.

He made just four appearances for Newcastle during his ill-fated stint in the North East and his career appears to be entering somewhat of a crossroads right now. Interestingly, the midfielder is currently away at the African Cup of Nations with international teammate and Newcastle star Mo Diame.
