Newcastle United have so far snubbed all attempts from rival Championship clubs to take ‘keeper Rob Elliot on loan this month, according to the Irish Sun

The Republic of Ireland international returned to the Magpies’ squad for the first time in 10 months against Birmingham City in the FA Cup after recovering from a knee injury that wrecked his Euro 2016 dream. One of the most popular players amongst the St. James’ Park faithful following a wonderful string of performances prior to his injury, the former Charlton custodian is understood to have attracted interest in the second tier.

Rotherham, Cardiff City and Wigan are believed to have enquired about his availability, only to reportedly be snubbed by top brass on Tyneside. Still, the report claims ‘bigger Championship clubs’ are weighing up a move for the stopper.

Rafa Benitez currently has quite a few options between the sticks in the likes of Karl Darlow and summer signing Matz Sels, while options such as Freddie Woodman and Tim Krul are away on loan at Kilmarnock and Ajax respectively.

Elliot penned a new deal to keep him at the club until 2020 recently, though Benitez allowed Krul to leave on a temporary basis as he recovered from a serious injury, so has previous in this regard.
