Rafa Benitez is looking forward to an old school atmosphere at Elland Road on Sunday as he takes his table toppers to face Leeds United.

To the generation brought up in the Premiership years it might seem an odd fixture but for the first time in six years the Yorkshire side have had to look out the ‘Sold Out’ sign.

After going through umpteen managers and almost as many false dawns in seems that Gary Monk may be putting together a side capable of challenging for a place in the Premier League.

Three back-to-back wins have taken Leeds into a play off spot with Benitez well briefed on what to expect when his side arrive in Yorkshire.

They are doing well, we are doing well, there will be a lot of fans in the stadium and I think it will be a massive game for everyone,” the Toon boss admitted. “It is the kind of game you want to play in and you want to win.

“They are in form, like us, and it will be very tough. I think it will be an interesting game.”

After the international break Benitez will be keeping a close eye on tonight’s match between Brighton and in-form Aston Villa.

If the weekend results pan out favourably Newcastle will be six points clear at the top of the table when they entertain Blackburn at St James’ Park next Saturday.
