Newcastle winger Christian Atsu has been talking about how he was persuaded to join Newcastle in the summer after a talk with some of his Chelsea team mates.

The Ghanaian international joined on loan from the Blues in the summer transfer window and before joining the Magpies, he canvassed the opinion of some players at the Premier League side. He told the Shields Gazette:

“Some of the Chelsea players spoke highly of some of the players here too, and when I came here I saw that they are very nice people. It was easy for me to settle in. You can see that even though we are playing in the Championship, Newcastle is a big club.”

Although he was used sparingly in the first team by Rafa Benitez in his early weeks at the club, the 24 year old has figured more prominently in recent matches, and played a crucial role in the victory over Rotherham a few weeks back by scoring the winning goal in his first league start for the Magpies.

The winger returned to the starting lineup against Preston North End for the EFL Cup match last night, hitting the woodwork twice and helping his side to a 6-0 rout. The Ghanaian will be hoping he can keep his place in the side when the two sides face each other once again in the league at Deepdale on Saturday.
