Newcastle star states what he believes is his best position

|

Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez believes the position he played in against Brentford at the weekend is his best role. The Spaniard replaced Mohamed Diame in the side for the match and played in a role behind the main striker Dwight Gayle.

Perez has struggled to score goals whilst playing out wide during his appearances for the Magpies so far this season, and has been out of the starting lineup for the past month as Benitez persisted with Gayle and Diame in the two most attacking roles. Perez told the Shields Gazette after the 3-1 win at the weekend:

“I like playing in that position, and I think it is the best position for me. I like playing between a No 10 and a No 9 – that kind of position is the best for my game. That is where I feel most comfortable, and I was lucky enough to be in that position in this game. We won, and everything is good.”

One of the major criticisms about the 23 year old is that he hasn’t established himself in one position in the Newcastle team, with Micky Quinn among others questioning his effectiveness. Newcastle fans will be hoping he can make the withdrawn striker role his own with Diame also struggling for form in recent matches.
