Newcastle midfielder Mohamed Diame is determined to improve the Magpies’ home record this season. Rafa Benitez’s side have lost two matches in five at St James’ Park but the Senegalese international is determined to put that right.

The 29 year old believes teams come to Tyneside without any fear of losing and also work extra hard to get the prize scalp of beating Newcastle on their own patch. He told the club’s official website:

“We need to get back and work for this important game at home against Brentford, because it’s important to stop losing points at home. Every team who comes to Newcastle think they have nothing to lose. “They are going to give it everything – so we need to be prepared and ready.”

Diame also talked about his frustrations of not providing more of an attacking threat for Newcastle since his £4.5million arrival in the summer from Hull City. The midfielder scored ten goals and provided four assists in the Tigers’ promotion season last year but has yet to score in the black and white of Newcastle since since his signing for thre club. Whether he will start on Saturday to put that statistic right, only Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez will know.
