Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is still demanding improvement from his players despite Newcastle recording their biggest win away from St James’ Park in 54 years against Queens Park Rangers.

During his time working under Benitez at Liverpool, Reds captain Steven Gerrard said his aim in life was to get a “well done” off Rafa and it looks like the Spaniard’s demand for perfection is still in evidence after the Magpies’ 6-0 win last night. Speaking to the Evening Chronicle after the match, Benitez said:

“Maybe, it’s not the right thing to say, but we can improve. The team has done well. Everybody was pushing and working very hard but as always we made some mistakes.”

“You have to make sure you control all of the games in a way that you have chances and they don’t have any.”

No doubt Rafa is looking to keep minds focused on the club’s next league encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Walter Zenga’s side have just suffered a heavy home defeat after losing 4-0 against surprise package Barnsley last night and will be desperate to put that right at St James’ Park at the weekend.

Benitez’s rotation policy means it is unlikely that the Magpies will go into the match with the same side despite their huge win against QPR so expect to see changes to the starting eleven.
