Magpies boss Rafa Benitez says he feels he has already built a rapport with the Newcastle fans to a similar level he had during his successful six year spell at Liverpool earlier in his career.

The Spaniard was speaking ahead of the match against Queens Park Rangers in the league tonight when he revealed his plans for getting Newcastle promoted and established back in the Premier League. He feels the strong goodwill towards him from the Toon Army makes him even more determined to give something back to the fans and succeed at the club. He is quoted by the Evening Chronicle as saying:

“When you have the feeling of getting something back from the fans, you want to do even more and achieve something. That is the situation I had in Liverpool and I have it here.”

“I would like to do really well because it is my nature, but also because the fans are so good. I want to give them something back.”

Benitez says he wants to be remembered as an important figure in the history of the club by getting the Magpies back to the top flight of English football and achieving more success:

“You want to do well and remembered as an important figure in the history of the club. In this case, it is very simple how to do that – to get promoted. If we are promoted, everybody will say: ‘Fantastic.’ And after that, we want to achieve something more.”

Newcastle seem well on the way to achieving the first task after four consecutive wins in the league but there will almost certainly be more ups and downs in a long Championship season.
