Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is believed to be looking at offloading winger Sammy Ameobi before transfer deadline day, according to the Shields Gazette.
The 24 year old made his first appearance for Newcastle this season in the Under 23 side that beat Barnsley 3-2 on Monday but his future at St James’ Park looks uncertain. The winger spent the entire of last campaign on loan at Championship side Cardiff City and despite making 36 league games, he managed just one goal and made three assists.
Although it must be said a lot of those appearances for the Bluebirds came from the bench, it is unlikely that he will be given more opportunities in the Newcastle first team this season. Benitez is currently looking for a winger before the end of the transfer window and the Magpies had an £8million bid knocked back by Brighton & Hove Albion for Anthony Knockaert early in the month. It looks likely that Ameobi will need to move on to get more game time.
