Rangers manager Mark Warburton has denied that the Scottish club are interested in signing Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong on loan.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has revealed the 19 year old has told him he would like to stay at St James’ Park this season and fight for his place but the Spaniard told him that he may be leaving the club on loan in the next few weeks. He won’t be heading north of the border to Glasgow though, according to Warburton. He told the Herald Scotland:

“Not for us. He’s a very talented player, but he’s not coming to Rangers. If we took everyone in that we are linked to we would have a squad of 75 players. He’s a very talented player, I know how well he did at Coventry, but there’s no truth in that rumour.”

Armstrong did come on as a second half substitute against Fulham in the 1-0 defeat last Friday but it is believed that Benitez is looking for another striker before the end of the transfer window, and with Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez already at the club, Armstrong will find his playing time severely limited and he is expected to leave on loan to another Championship side or League One before transfer deadline day.
