Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has told the Shields Gazette that the club is considering loan moves for Premier League players after being frustrated in adding further permanent signings to his squad.

The Spaniard has revealed in recent days that he wants to bring in “two or three” more signings before the end of August. A striker and a winger are believed to be the areas which the Magpies boss wants to strengthen but when asked about the club’s interest in Ross McCormack, who recently moved from Fulham to Aston Villa for £12million, Rafa replied:

“I don’t like to talk about the players of other teams… We have been analysing the market and it has changed a little bit. At the beginning, we were trying to do things and it was maybe a little easier. We had our ideas and our targets. The prices for the best players are higher. Everybody is asking for so much money.”

In a follow up question where he was asked whether he would look to bring in loan signings from the Premier League instead, he responded:

“Yes, we are looking at it. We are looking at everything.”

The news follows the release of Newcastle United’s squad numbers for the new season with £10million signing Dwight Gayle taking the number 9 shirt ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic. A shooting competition was proposed between the pair to settle who would get the much vaunted number but Mitrovic conceded it to Gayle.
