It was announced yesterday that Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman had signed a new four year contract to remain at St James’ Park. The 19 year old was said to be interesting both Liverpool and Tottenham.

Talking to NUFC TV however, Woodman has stated his desire to get more first team experience by leaving the club on loan:

“It’s been a difficult time for the club and a difficult time for myself. I haven’t got as much game time as I’d have liked this season, and it’s something I’ll have to look at and see if I can get out on loan. It’s a tough time, but I’m sure the club will bounce back.”

Woodman has a staggering four goalkeepers ahead of him in the pecking order with Matz Sels, Rob Elliot, Tim Krul and Karl Darlow all currently in the first team squad, although Krul’s future at the club is still uncertain.

If Krul does leave, hat still leaves three keepers to get past in order to gain first team opportunities and he is no doubt keen to go out on loan so he can impress manager Rafa Benitez and return to the club with more experience and a better chance of breaking into the starting eleven. We will wait to see what teams come in for the player.
