Saint Etienne boss Christophe Galtier is “mulling over” whether to bid for Newcastle midfielder Henri Saivet, according to French publication L’Equipe.

Galtier is looking for greater flexibility in the formations he can use with the Ligue One side and he believes Saivet could help the team to play both 4-3-3 and 3-5-2.

Saivet signed for £5m only in January but has made just two appearance with Rafa Benitez opting not to use the Senegalese international during his time at the club. It is believed the 25 year old is free to leave the Championship side this summer but it seems that Saint Etienne aren’t interested in a permanent transfer straight away.

L’Equipe are reporting that Galtier would like Saivet on a season long loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. They are also only willing to pay half of Saivet’s £35,000 a week salary. It is not known whether such a deal would interest the Magpies.
