Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has spoken of his desire to ensure that the Magpies return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Serbian international is currently in Ireland as part of the club’s preseason training camp and they will play League of Ireland side Bohemian FC in Dublin on Saturday. The 21 year old told NUFC TV that he is prepared for a tough season in the Championship:

“I scored a few goals in friendly games, it’s always nice to score for your club and national team. I have had 25 days to rest, now it is time to prepare for a long season. We have to do everything to get promoted.”

The Serbian will miss the first four matches of the league campaign after being sent off on the last day of the Premier League season against Tottenham when he committed a bad foul on Spurs full back Kyle Walker.

Depending on the formation that manager Rafa Benitez chooses, the arrival of Dwight Gayle for £10million from Crystal Palace could see the Serbian target man having to fight for his place in the first team as the Magpies look for automatic promotion back to the top flight.
