Newcastle full back Daryl Janmaat’s agent has confirmed that Watford and Newcastle have discussed a transfer for the Dutch international.
Michael Jansen told Fox Sports in the Netherlands that the two clubs have been in discussions but that talks have not progressed from a preliminary stage:
“There has also been talk between Watford and Newcastle. But right now it does not seem that’s going to happen.”
The signing of Jesus Gamez from Atletico Madrid for £3million, a player who will be a rival for Janmaat’s position in the side, has increased speculation about the Dutchman’s future at St James’ Park. Jansen however believes that the Magpies are in no rush to sell the player and he insists that his client won’t force through a move as they want to leave on the right terms with the club.
“Newcastle have key players, including Daryl, who they don’t want to let go just like that. The club wants to get back as soon as possible to the Premier League and they do not need the money. If a good opportunity comes along, we will investigate them. But it’s not a matter of want or need. If he were to leave, he wants to do through the front door.”
The 26 year old has been a first team regular for Newcastle since joining from Feyenoord two years ago, and it doesn’t seem he is likely to be leaving the club anytime soon.
