Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has selected Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in his Premier League team of the week.

The veteran coach selected his best XI from the weekend’s action for The Telegraph, and included the Serbia international in his side.

Mitrovic has split opinion since arriving from Anderlecht in the summer, with a volatile personality and poor disciplinary record blighting his on-field efforts.

However, the powerful centre forward showcased his best qualities by netting a brace against Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Although this was not enough to give the Magpies points after a 3-2 defeat, it is a promising sign for the remainder of the campaign.

Mitrovic has been vocal after the win and stated that his team-mates need to fight if Newcastle are to retain their Premier League status.

“The best way to improve is to win the next game and move on,” the Serb is quoted as saying by The Chronicle.

“Southampton away will be difficult but we must stay strong. If we want to do well we can’t concede easy goals like Norwich.”

Mitrovic must be in line for a recall to the starting line-up after his brace at the weekend, with Newcastle certainly needing strong characters if they are to avoid the drop.
