Retired midfielder Jamie Redknapp has stated that former Newcastle United striker Les Ferdinand would be worth £50-60 million in today’s transfer market.

The former England international was a fans’ favourite at St James’ Park, despite only playing at the Tyneside club for two seasons before moving to Tottenham.

Ferdinand was part of the Magpies side that was fighting for the Premier League title and picked up two runners-up medals during his time in the North East.

The ex-QPR man scored 41 Premier League goals over the course of the two campaigns and was renowned for his aerial ability.

Redknapp was talking about Ferdinand recently and highlighted him as a striker that would be in demand today given his attributes and be worth a lot more than the £6 million that Newcastle sold him to Tottenham for.

“I’d love to know how much he’d be worth now. You look at centre forwards, they are valued commodities,” The Daily Mail quote Redknapp as saying.

“There are not many around that could do what Les could do because he could bring you into play; extremely powerful. He would be worth £50-60million now.”

Newcastle have a rich history of possessing powerful number nines in their attack, with Ferdinand still regarded as one of the best of a generation at St James’ Park.
