Newcastle United’s number one target in the summer is arguably Remy Cabella, but if Montpellier’s President Louis Nicollin is to be believed then Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea have a better chance of signing the Frenchman.
There’s some sort of requirement for presidents of French football clubs to have too much to say for themselves.
First it was Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas mouthing off about Bafetimbi Gomis, now Nicollin won’t shut up about Cabella.
Newcastle were heavily linked with Cabella in January, with Nicollin first piped up and this week the Montpellier President has had more to say for himself.
In regards to Cabella, Nicollin said: “Newcastle? They’re good, aren’t they? Don’t make me laugh. In England, you should play at Arsenal or Chelsea or either of the Manchester teams at a push.”
Nicollin continued: “We promised to let him leave. But I’ll advise him not to leave for just anywhere. I wouldn’t prevent him from leaving but he’s not made for that. He must find a good French club [like] Monaco or PSG.”
Nicollin’s not exactly a fan of Newcastle then, or the north of England it seems. Let’s just hope Cabella takes no notice and that we have two Remy’s at St James’ Park next season.
