A move from Tottenham to Newcastle won’t happen, will it?

Aaron LennonThe past seven days has seen Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon linked with a move to Newcastle United by many sources, but surely this transfer rumour won’t materialise into anything more?

26-year-old Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon is now in his ninth season at White Hart Lane but there still seems to be a sense of unfulfilled promise, despite that fact that he has made over 300 appearances for Spurs.

The pacey midfielder has all the attributes to cause havoc to opposition defenders, but sometimes he lacks that final ball and has only scored 30 goals in his career, showing his doesn’t contribute too much in front of goal.

Lennon also seems to be on the treatment table quite a lot, as he is at the moment, and we have yet to fully see how Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas will fit him into his new look team.

It is the influx of players to Spurs that has prompted rumours of a possible exit in the January transfer window for Aaron, but I can’t see Tottenham wanting to lose such a rare talent.

Yes they have brought in a whole host of established stars, but none have the pace of Lennon and none can run at defenders like he does.

Aaron is still only 26-years-old and would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle, but don’t expect Spurs to let him go any time soon.

Not sure about this one Tom! As a Spurs fan I get the feeling that under AVB, Townsend’s star is in the ascendency. He is more naturally aggressive and more athletic than Lennon, with a better shot and eye for goal, so he has more upside. If you then factor in Lamela, being touted as the second coming of Gareth Bale, plus the highly rated and much more physically dominating and imposing Chadli, it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that Lennon could find himself as the 4th choice winger. Under those circumstances, given the new recruitment policy at Spurs, I could very easily see that Lennon, being English, might be sold (for profit) at a somewhat inflated price to a Premier League suitor. With all due respect, that would preferably be to a team like Newcastle, rather than an immediate rival like Liverpool or Arsenal. He might not leave in the January window, but I will predict that Lennon is not at Spurs next season.

One problem, AVB loves Azza blood, that’s for sure, Spurs are not as effective without Lennon, they can’t break on teams as fast without him, when Spurs are under the cosh, Azza can take the ball up the other end of the pitch in seconds!

Spurs have relied on him to long, hense the injurys, he has to play so many intense games his strings pop every season, if he only played 25/30games Spurs would see the bet of him.

And where on earth would the barcodes get £25/30m that Levy would demand? It won’t happen, there’s no point in selling Lennon, he didn’t cost more than a million and now Spurs are looking to play 433 he is much needed as you need many more forward players to play that system and regularly rotate than last seasons4411 or 442 that Spurs had to play because of a lack of forward players.

I think he is definitely worth keeping as he could prove to be a very useful impact sub if whoever starts on the right isn’t working. He is always looking to make darting runs in behind the left back and links up well with Walker. He would cause a lot of problems for a tired left back for the last 20 minutes of a game.

I would rather have Townsend or Sigurdsson – but I’m not sure either of those are likely. Lennon is a decent player but I just don’t see it in all honesty.
Livermore and Naughton would be 2 players from Spurs I think we should be looking at as well. Livermore in place for Tiote or Jonas, who I think have had their time and Naughton as competition for Debuchy.
