mcmanaman on haidaraWigan midfielder Callum McManaman was as it again yesterday as he was sent off for a lunging tackle against Bournemouth in their 1-0 defeat in the Championship, bringing back memories of his horror tackle on Newcastle United’s Massadio Haidara last season.

McManaman’s assault on Haidara at the DW Stadium last season was one of the moments that angered Newcastle fans most, as he avoided a red card and then Wigan chairman David Whelan had the cheek to defend the decision.

Thankfully for Haidara, the young left back was only out for a couple of weeks and the Frenchman was lucky to avoid a much more serious injury and a substantially longer lay-off.

Roberto Martinez was quick to point out that McManaman ‘wasn’t that type of player’, but it appears that the Spaniard has been proved wrong as the winger has been at it again.

McManaman was given a straight red for his tackle on Bournemouth’s Brett Pitman, lunging in two-footed as shown in the video below…

After the game Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said: “I thought it was a high challenge and his exuberance took him in a bit quick. I don’t think it was malicious but I think it was a red card.”

Howe continued: “He doesn’t have a reputation, referees judge the tackles on their merit,” but if he carries on like this he will have a reputation!

That clearly wasn’t as bad as last season’s effort, which is below as a reminder…

Wonder if the Wigan fans gave him a standing ovation this time!!!!

  • andrew says:

    Jesus let it go.

  • Dan says:

    No

McManaman is a dirty player with a nasty streak. The lad might be a decent footballer but he’s complete @r$hole.

  • stevetoon says:

Andrew let it go…. Are you related to mark Halsey?

  • Harry's Dad says:

    Andrew

We should never let it go. One day this thug will end a football player’s career and that should never be allowed to happen.

  • Alan says:

He got the ball in this one to should not have been sent off get a life.

  • Gary says:

Blimey, you guys don’t half sound like a broken record. He ain’t the first and he won’t be the last.

  • DJG says:

The trouble for McMananan is, once you get a reputation, you lose the benefit of the doubt. Just ask Tiote or ‘Clattermole’.

  • Davey G says:

He’s a dirty player! A coward! No ifs or buts!

  • andrew says:

Biggest over reaction to a bruised knee I have ever seen.

It would have been interesting to see the reverse angle on the initial challenge by Pitman. If you slow and do frame by frame about 6 seconds in you will see he challenges right over the ball, which is why McMananaman reacted the way he did. Again if you slow it he does actually get the ball and it is the follow through, which the player jumps to avoid which would be justifiably a yellow card. What annoyed both Owen Coyle and the latics fans is the reaction of the players from Bournemouth. If you watch the original incident the player has hardly hit the ground before the referee is pounced on by a player waving an imaginary card and he is then manhandled as he approaches the indent.

Never thought we would play a bigger load of drama queens than Newcastle, but I guess yesterday proved me wrong.

And yet I doubt anything he will do in his career will ever be as dangerous as this http://youtu.be/C8fMbxLTpps

  • stevetoon says:

You must be really proud of him!!! 3 minutes he was on the pitch!!! Just what you need when your looking to get back in a game!!!! A tit like him. Hope someone goes thru him soon!!!! If hes on the pitch long enough!!!

    • Devils Advocate says:

So, Stevetoon, you are actively advocating players to go “thru him (sic)”? Do tell me how that makes you and that player any better than the actions of the player you are so vociferously attacking?

  • stevetoon says:

A taste of his own medicine would be nice!! I was there when he done haidara and you mugs gave him a standing ovation that’s sic!!!!!

    • Devils Advocate says:

(sic) refers to a direct quotation that has a spelling error or different to normal spelling. In your case, the “thru (sic)” (D’ya see what I did there?)

So you are basically saying that you want people to try and end another persons career? Do tell me how that makes your case any stronger? You are effectively saying that you would do exactly what he did.

  • John Clayton says:

That was a perfectly good tackle,he went for the ball.Good god you’ll have the game done away will. This is what is wrong with the game to much money, not enough passion. It did not
deserve a red, referee very very poor all game.God what do the lads on a sunday morning think?.

  • John Clayton says:

whats this stevetoon on about, its a good job he can spell else we’d be all ——.shearer was the worst thug going.

  • stevetoon says:

Ass holes (d’yi see what I did there?) the whole of the country says it was red!!! Apart from you and Dave Whelan who is bitter because Ashley bought his little sports shop off him!!!

    • Devils Advocate says:

I’m not talking about that though Stevetoon. I’m more interested in the fact that you are advocating the very activity that has got you so very riled up. What I’m still waiting for is for you to give a reason as to why it is OK for it to happen to him but not OK for it to happen to someone else?

Please discuss, bonus marks will be awarded if you can get through your reply without swearing and avoiding text talk (like “shud (sic)”). Your grammar has been largely acceptable but you are being let down by your spelling. Keep trying though!

  • stevetoon says:

Playing in the premier league and winning the FA cup one minute then not good enough to get into championship starting 11 the next minute!!!! Owen coyle has seen thru him!!! Any comments Dave Whelan!!!! Shud have sold him to the mackems when yi had your chance!!! Then i could hate him even more!!! How’s my grammar? Devils advocate!!! You tit

  • Alan says:

Maloney got a boot in the back of the head in the same game and didn’t even get a free kick.
