willianTransfer news coming in from the Mirror this morning that Liverpool are on the verge of signing Willian from Anzhi for £15 million, but that Newcastle United will make a late bid to hijack the transfer of the Brazilian international.

Newcastle begin their 2013/14 Premier League season against Manchester City at the Eithad Stadium on Monday and Joe Kinnear is thought to be keen to resume talks with the 25-year-old prior to that match.

Willian is one of those players who seems to have been linked with a move to English football for a long time, with Tottenham Hotspur that first club to have been credited with an interest, while the Reds have taken up the lead this summer.

Newcastle came up against Anzhi in the Europa League season, but Willian was missing through injury following his 35 million Euros move to Russia from Shakhtar Donetsk in January.

Willian is the second Anzhi player that Newcastle have been linked with this summer, with the Russian club looking to drastically slash their wage bill, as the other was the somewhat surprising supposed interest in Samuel Eto’o.

£15m would be a very good price for a player who cost twice that six months ago and the attacking midfielder, who has won two international caps for Brazil, is a player of undoubted talent.

However, given Newcastle’s current standing in English football and a move for a striker being of a higher priority, a transfer to Liverpool looks much more likely.

oh no not Newcastle….. oh wait what a load of crap. Mike Ashley is in the middle of forcing his manager out he isn’t going to give him that type of money to spend, never mind there is no way would pay his 110k a week wages he has spent last few years getting rid of Newcastle’s high earners

  • tom mc says:

don’t be stupid,we will sign nobody, ashley is thick as a brick, what a reception he will get against w.ham,if he bothers to turn up,he will be at the casino spending season ticket money, the man is garbage, and what s joe Kinnear getting paid for?

  • Paul says:

Why are these stories even being printed. William must be on some serious wages if his transfer was 35 million euros. So there is no way nufc would even think to buy him as their wage structure won’t go over 65,000 per week

  • stevetoon says:

He’s waiting till he gets money off cabaye sale!!! By then it will be to late to get “anyone over the line”. Then into his bank just like Andy carrolls money!!!!
    never to be seen again!!!

  • Patrick says:

£15m wouldn’t even get his agents attention. Liverpool are bidding £30m +

    Suarez…Sturridge……Willian

    ………….Coutinho

That would be as good an attack as any of the top English teams. Getting Willian is the hard part though.

  • jpliverpoolfan says:

All this are nonsense. Willian will definitely sign for Liverpool as liverpool fc definitely have more history than newcastle and would be able to offer Willian high salary. So this report is definitely rubbish.

  • Connor says:

WHy are your Geordies torturing themselves with stories like this? Why on gods earth would Willian come to the toon with the way things are going?

  • alade says:

go to liverpool,ur game perfect wif them…….even suarez stay or not, liverpool fit u….u we never work alone willian……

  • John says:

I love how Rodgers is building the Liverpool team, you can only see Liverpool getting better and better each year. The American cowboys almost ruined Liverpool but you can see they’re on the way up again.

  • Bruce says:

Don’t worry guys, I think LFC needs to buy ur ground and turn it to Tesco or Kebab shop. This wld afford ur chairman much more money to take Gaza out for a drink.

  • Paul says:

hahahahahahaha funniest thing i have read regarding transfers this season. Willian to NUFC?????? Hahahahahahahaha 1. ashley will never spend that amount of money on a player. 2, Joe Kinnear probably has never heard of him or know anything about him, being out of the game for 20yrs as he has. 3. Why in gods earth would willian ever want to play for Newcastle? Average midtable club which is predominantly the french reserve team and who have never and will never win anything of any note in major football. I like starting a sunday with a good chuckle.

    • Matt says:

You nob Paul are u scouse?

      • Simon says:

He is more likely a Liverpool supporter as it the kind of remarke one would make

      • redder says:

he’s right..why would he want to go to newcastle.no one wants to go there until killnear and ashly goes destroing the club no pulling power.liverpool at last have got that with rogers and gets backed by owners…he’s going to liverpool..he want go to any other club in premier beacuse he does’nt want to keep bench warm just look at man city

    • thetoonrme says:

same reason Cisse or Cabaye do or Krul or Debuchy…money and if were able to offer more then they will come simple as.

    • Matt says:

Paul seems to forget that the other club hes linked with “liverpool” is not much better than an “Average midtable club” and thats after spending 60+ million the last 2 years /storys fake

  • Johnson says:

Getting big players with out UCL is difficult and that could only be achieved swiftly by the money influence, so LFC should act very fast and do the money influence before we lose them all for UCL!

  • JoelToon says:

Agree with near enough everyone, deluded stories with false hope, just making Newcastle look more desperate and needy for any sort of positive media

  • Redhtlouie says:

F**k me £15 million ??? They got a bid of £34 million off man city 4 months ago and knocked it back , so why the hell are they going to sell him for £15 ? I no they have money problems now , but a bid from lpool of £25-30 million shud do it ! With respect to Newcastle he is a top player who needs to be playing C L and he will achieve that with LFC this year, NUFC are a sort of way off that at the moment.

    • T says:

The daft scousers will pay over the odds again for an average player then sell him on for a fraction of the price and still be a mid table average club

  • Geordie1 says:

@ Redhole what makes you think Pool will qualify for the CL? I could name at least 6 others who have a better chance, the TOON are not one of these six but at least we have not sold wor soul to a forigner.

  • ted says:

Sold wor soul to a foreigner? do you actually like mr sports direct now then ?

  • ted says:

    cockney management and french team

  • ck says:

why do people still have johnson in their team?
he useless, overrated.and do not know how to defend.
i.mean he is picked to defend first.
