Marvin MartinNewcastle United are lining up Marvin Martin as a potential replacement for Yohan Cabaye should a bid come in from Manchester United for the Frenchman according to EyeFootball.com.

The football transfer window is always full of ifs and buts, however you always need to have a plan b should things not turn out how you wanted them to.

Newcastle are pretty confident that Yohan Cabaye won’t quit the club this summer, but if he does Alan Pardew will need a man to step into his shoes straight away.

According to reports that man could be fellow Frenchman Marvin Martin, who currently plays for Cabaye’s former club Lille.

Martin is valued at around 12 million Euros (£10m), having only joined Lille 12 months ago from Sochaux and the 25-year-old still has four years left on his five-year deal.

The Frenchman has plenty of qualities, being an extremely agile midfielder who stands at just 5ft 7in and having great ball control and passing ability.

Like Cabaye, he is a creative force in the middle of the park, boasting great vision and has technique of the very highest standard, as you’d expect of a player from the continent.

Martin has played 15 times for France and shares a record with fellow Newcastle target Bafetimbi Gomis, having scored twice on his full international debut.

Would the Parisian be a good addition to Newcastle’s squad?

We not only need an extremely agile midfielder, with great ball control and passing ability boasting great vision and technique of the very highest standard – we need a manager who doesnt immediately play him as part of a defensive midfield pairing because he’s frightened of losing.

What makes anybody think we’ll be able to act so quickly, and that Ashley will be willing to spend £10m,when firstly you have the complete waste of space Kinnear, when we can’t get the targets ” over the ine” that we’ve been after for over six months, and when players see how the buffoons who are running the club treat the players we already have,by getting even their names wrong!

Firstly I’ve never heard of him and for 10 million you would think he would be a name that has been thrown about especially in France were 10 million apparently is 20 million anywhere else in Europe secondly it’s took kinnear nearly 2 month to get someone through the door on loan ?

Just because you haven’t heard of him, doesn’t mean he’s not a quality player! I’ve seen him play a couple of times for France and he has great awareness! Cabaye was useless post-January ish anyway so i wouldn’t complain

Sick of reading such negativity regarding management/ownership.

We all know the reasons behind our downfall last season (lack of depth competing in Europe/injuries to vital players/ new players adjusting).

If this article is true then so be it. I hadn’t heard of many of our current french stars before we bought them so lets be optimistic lads. And that’s to say if Cabaye even leaves with a 30mil price tag over his head.

I personally think we can realistically finish between 5-7 this season based on the fact Pardew achieved that the season before.

I think Cabaye needs to come out with a statement as to what he wants. I am sick of rumours. If the players are committed then say so. We need to build not sell and they should do everything possible to keep the players. As for Kinnear I truly think it’s a big mistake. It could be Newcastle’s downfall. I am a very passionate toon fan. I love the club, but it don’t mean I have to like everything that is going on at the club.

For me, martin is a same standard player as cabye, if we can sell cabye for atleast 25 m then Martin will be a good replacement.

  • DaveH says:

The manager needs to believe in the players he brings in. He appears tactically inept playing 1 upfront at home. We need to entertain and play football that shows belief. Cabaye in the team means we move the ball with efficiency and belief. Without him we must plug that gap. Does he believe in goudfran, sissoko etc I’m not sure. But he must play best players in best positions.

  • thetoonrme says:

I believe that selling Cabaye is the key to our season ,if he goes in will come a replacement at less than half his value and a striker in the 10 million bracket and thats without fatty having to touch his pocket money from the prem lge.

Cabayes performances last season dropped considerably from the previous and in my opinion i believe the lad wants to move on to bigger things, for 20 million i would snap anyones hand off as even Anita is an adequate replacement

  • leenufc says:

anita different type of player to cabaye ..why r fans thinking like ashley PROFIT we need to keep best players to build a good team ..not sell our best every season

  • Kris says:

Well that’s bull cause Martin left Lille this summer for marseille
