West Ham rival Newcastle for striker signature

West Ham are rivalling Newcastle United for the signing of QPR forward Loic Remy according to the Daily Star.

It is being reported that West Ham manager Sam Allardyce wants to pair the Frenchman with former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll up front and is prepared to sign the 26-year-old on a permanent deal.

Newcastle are only looking to sign Remy on loan, however this evening ESPN FC have stated that a source close to the striker has said that the deal is almost done.

This will please former Newcastle defender Olivier Bernard who believes that Remy would be an excellent signing for the Magpies.

Bernard told the Chronicle: “Remy is a really good footballer and just what the team needs right now. The club are on the verge of signing a quality player. Remy ticks a lot of boxes.

“His best position is with to the right hand side of a three-man attack”, which is likely to be where Alan Pardew would employ him in his starting eleven.

Bernard continued: “He has the pace to get behind defenders with almost embarrassing ease. A Cisse, Remy, and Hatem Ben Arfa attack excites me.

“There’s an awful lot of goals in that quality trio. All of a sudden I’m quite excited about how the team could line up against Manchester City on August 19.”

Let’s just hope Remy finally comes to Newcastle, even if it is six months too late.
