Mevlut ErdingNewcastle United are taking an interest in Turkish striker Mevlut Erding once again according to the Daily Mirror.

The Magpies were strongly interested in Erding back in the summer of 2011 and it seems that the Newcastle scouting network have continued to watch the Ligue 1 striker for the past two years.

Now 26 years of age, Erding has since moved from PSG to Rennes following the huge amount of investment in the Parisian club.

In his first year at Rennes, Erding helped his new club to a 13th place finish in Ligue 1 with 13 goals, which weren’t unlucky for him!

Erding has dual nationality between Turkey and France, and despite spending his entire career to date in French football, Erding has 21 international caps for Turkey to his name.

Valued at around £5 million, Erding is contracted to Rennes until 2015, so the French club would need to receive a sizeable offer in order to sell, with Premier League duo Swansea and Stoke also thought to be interested.

The Turkish Tank is a personal favourite of Alan Pardew and if moves for other targets fail to come off, then Joe Kinnear may well be forced to consider Mevlut Erding this summer.
