The Europa League match in Belgium tonight that finished Club Brugge 2-2 Newcastle United was a cracking game and it also saw Newcastle’s Dutchman Vurnon Anita score his first goal for the Magpies, which was a real screamer!
23-year-old Vurnon Anita signed from Ajax in the summer and The Netherlands international has been finding his feet in the north east so far.
Used in the centre of the park sparingly, which is his favourite position, Anita has had to fill in at right back fairly often due to an injury to first choice right side defender Danny Simpson.
That’s where the Dutchman was employed tonight, on the right side of a back four that also consisted of captain Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson and James Tavernier.
With Newcastle falling 2-0 behind to the Belgian side, the Magpies needed something special to get them back in to the match, and that’s just what Anita provided.
Frenchman Sylvain Marveaux’s cross from the left was only half cleared, and the ball fell to Anita on the right hand channel, just outside of the area.
As the ball fell, Anita smacked a right-footed volley into the back of the net, demonstrating fantastic technique in the process.
