Which Newcastle players would you pick?

fantasy footballSo, with the start of the 2012/13 Premier League campaign upon us, fantasy football managers across the world are selecting and finalising their squad of players and starting eleven for the new season.

While Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is restricted to picking from those that play in the famous black and white stripes, you can pick any player in the Premier League that takes your fancy, on the proviso that your budget is big enough.

However, which Newcastle players should you be selecting in your fantasy football squads, if any?

There is only one fantasy football game you should be playing that trumps them all – The Official Fantasy Football Game of the Premier League.

If you haven’t joined the Nothing But Newcastle Fantasy League yet, then get yourself over to http://fantasy.premierleague.com/ and join a private league with 637227-278464 as the code.

Now then, with that bit of housekeeping out of way, let’s get onto the task of picking your (Newcastle) players.

Newcastle’s biggest points scorer last season was Demba Ba and at £7.5 million he’s a good £2m cheaper than his compatriot Papiss Cisse, but with both in the middle of Ramadan and carrying knocks, I’d steer clear.

Tim Krul at £5.5m might be a good shout, while at £4.5m, Mike Williamson is one of Newcastle’s cheaper defenders and may well get a start ahead of the returning Steven Taylor in the heart of the Magpies’ defence.

Some of Newcastle’s most wanted players can be found in the middle of the park, with Frenchmen Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa at £7m and £7.5m respectively both likely to get interest, but it’s £4.5m valued Sylvain Marveaux who may prove to be a bargain signing.

Once you’ve digested that info, put your team together and get yourself over to http://fantasy.premierleague.com/ – enter the league code: 637227-278464 and Bob’s your uncle: you’ve taken your place in the second Nothing But Newcastle Fantasy Football League. I look forward to seeing you there!
