Image for PICTURE: A Liverpool image that Newcastle can dine out on for years to come

What a day for Newcastle United! Beating Liverpool 2-0 at St James’ Park thanks to a Papiss Cisse double doesn’t even tell half the story.

Deep into the second half when the Magpies were cruising to victory, former Newcastle player Jose Enrique’s words truly came back to haunt him as he spent the last ten minutes in goal!

Just in case you need a reminder as to what Enrique said, this is what Jose stated just before he left Newcastle at the start of the season: “The club [Newcastle] are allowing all the major players in the team to go. The club will never again fight among the top six with this policy.”

[ad_pod id=’unruly-video’ align=’right’]

Well, revenge is a dish best served cold, but it was Liverpool goalkeeper who got a bit hot under the collar and the let the afternoon’s frustrations get the better of him.

James Perch was a bit silly to trip Reina after the Spanish ‘keeper claimed a corner, but then Reina got up and head butted Perch, who then performed a fall worthy of an Oscar.

Reina was rightfully given his marching orders by referee Martin Atkinson and as Kenny Dalglish had already made three substitutes, Enrique was forced to go in goal.

Cue absolute hilarity within St James’ Park, plenty of chants aimed at Enrique and maybe this picture will be a lesson to the Spaniard that sometimes you should leave a club with your dignity intact, or it might just come back to bite you…

More like Jose Enrique showing commitment to the cause. Bet he wouldn’t have done that when he was at St Jame… oopps sorry The Sports Direct Arena!

    • Andrew says:

He probably would have done the exact same at SJP but none of our goalkeepers were ever stupid enough to get sent off with no subs left. Muppet top 6 for us, you’ll be lucky if it’s top 8 for Liverpool.

      • John says:

        Enjoy mate,
You won’t finish above us again in the next ten years so enjoy.
The reds will bounce back soon and add another trophy in may too! Ynwa
Ps. You won’t finish above Chelsea or arsenal :))

        • Andy says:

#Yawn# You said exactly the same thing last summer “Newcastle are gong straight back down, Andy and Jose are joining a Big Club” etc. You can’t admit that you’re wrong, you’ve squandered all your money and now you’re paying for it. But hey, if “bouncing back” means cutting your own throats buying our players then by all means go for it. You think Ba or Cissé want to play for Liverpool? You think Andy Carroll, Suarez and Jose Enrique are happy in Liverpool? Get real.

        • Craig says:

Seriously is that the best you have got? guess work, instead of looking at the facts.

        • John says:

you will not improve with Kenny their who you trying to kid you won a cup where every team plays there reserves and you were lucky to beat Cardiff at that i might add … you think you gonna win the FA cup the way your lot are playing ??? you do well to beat Everton who i might add are above you in the table also, and if you make the final do you think you can beat Spurs …. you be lucky to get top 10 this season …. any chance you wanna give us 35m for Shola ?? we could use 10m to buy 4 or 5 superior players

        • Tom Jones says:

Reckon we’ll finish above you next season too if you keep Kenny in charge

    • Sean says:

Oh no he said sports direct arena! What shall we do?!

  • hebburnmag says:

Names irrelevant, result is resounding. Long live king kenny. You might make top 10 jose if lucky!

  • Keith Murtagh says:

on the contrary he worked extremely hard at newcastle, resulting in him becoming a better player.

unfortunately he made the mistake of believing liverpool were a better team, naively basing his judgment on the past and not the present, ironically like the liverpool fans’ perception of king kenny himself.

  • JP...from The Rock says:

I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw that! Oh the irony lol. It’s such a shame we didn’t get to see Jose Enrique flapping across goal trying to stop a Ben Arfa screamer.

Result well desreved and Liverfool were played off the park.

    • bertie says:

you talk an absolute load of shite newcastle will never win anything in your lifetime even the shity league cup

      • bertie says:

what a load of bull typical of geordies allways moaning about something i suppose mike ashley is your hero now you will never win a trophy of any kind in your lifetime answer that when you win somthing

        • Sean says:

We probably won’t win anything. That’s why our support is so fantastic. Keep saying it, you win a cup every few years, we don’t. We get 53,000, you on the other hand don’t.

  • SHANKLY GATES says:

HAVE YOUR MOMENT IN THE SUN,YOU HAVE WON NOTHING AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL WITH THAT .YOU SHOULD CHANGE THE STADIUM NAME TO OLD TRAFFORD ,ANFIELD OR STAMFORD BRIDGE BECAUSE ITS THE CLOSEST YU’S ARE EVER GONNA GET!

    • tommy d says:

haha newcastle fans are beyond ridiculous, d fact yee are BRAGGING bou being in d top 6th and were classing this as a nightmare season when we are 8th and and on d brink of winning 2 of the 3 trophys were involved in shows just why jose left d toon for us! and every newcastle fan agreed with jose when he said the top 6 comment as did ye criticise d appointment of pardew so get over d fact u wil finish in d top half for d 1st tym in years and know ur place! were a bigger and better club and always will be, haha newcastle fans tut tut tut

      • hebburnmag says:

Wot u smoking tommy, molby to rush is gone. We aint bragging about anything, just gracious for the 35m. Do any lpool fans actually realise what king kenny is doing??????

        • tommy d says:

crack, why :)ah no seriously doe, im not happy with how things are going as are most pool fans but thats my point, d fact that our season is being so heavily criticised by all quarters including ourselves shows a level of expectation d toon can only dream of, u spent the match singing bout how ye were in d top six as if it was sumtin to b proud of and den followed it by singing how kenny was getting sacked in d morning even doe were having a better season den ye by all accounts,as were only 2 places behind ya with possibly 2 trophies won! so even newcastle fans acknowedge how much more is expected of d pool den d toon, and d reason is were a bigger nd better club! i always liked newcastle nd its good to c dem doin well but a bit of perspective is needed me tinks, top six is all boys, relax

      • Andy says:

Whats so ridiculous about some satisfaction about being in the top 6 despite everyone tipping us off for relegation at the start of this season and our two best players (Andy and Jose) leaving for a “better club”? We’re not bragging, the entire British sporting press is heaping praise upon Newcastle for building a fantastic team from nothing. If you can’t admit that that is an achievement then you’re either jealous or mad (on the other hand anyone who thinks that spending £110 million on new players and winning one league cup on penalties against CARDIFF is an achievement is a deluded idiot)

        • tommy d says:

im not saying its an achievement to win d carling cup, not for a club d size of liverpool neway, had d toon won it on d other hand der wud have been an open top bus! im sayin d fact potentially winning 2 out of 3 trophys is considered such a failure, by me included, shows why we are liverpool and d fact a top six finish is considered an achievement for yee shows why ye are newcastle, i agree yee have over achieved and weve under achieved but d fact top 6 is an over achievement says it all really! but ur ryt to enjoy it i feared for yee this year but uv proved everyone wrong so fair play

        • John says:

Why do you have that expectation ?? your getting worse each season an every season start with the expectation you will win the league, when you bow our of a cup the typical liverpool fan response is ‘the league is more important’ … i like liverpool an the fans.. hate Kenny hes useless and will only ruin your team.. why are we happy ? we hit rock bottom got relegated , came back up by winning the championship , survied last season … this season we were tipped to go down, got no credit for our 11game unbeaten start, we spent how much on players ???? and i was on here saying give pardew a chance hes not to blame for Ashleys actions who i might add has turned his act around… lose with a bit of dignity … remember it was the liverpool player who tried to cheat diving for a pen

        • Mike says:

Ha ha ha. Andy, Andy, Andy,

Like all geordies you’re a bell end. A more deluded set of fans I have never met. You last won a trophy in the 60’s??? you live of Jackie Milburn, you’ve had three good players since.
Your idiotic fans only started turning up at SJP when you got in to the Premier League. Average attendance just before you were promoted was 16k. I suppose you are one of those who was always Pardews biggest fanwhen he turned up too. two faced idiots.
live in the glory of beating liverpool, enjoy it. enjoy your freakishly good season and congratulations on it. Now try maintaining that for 50, 60 years, maybe throw a few trophies in and then start gloating.

        • Andy says:

          Mike, Mike, Mike,
I don’t think any nufc fan has said anything delusional here “we’ve had a blinding season” and “jose enrique was wrong – we are once again fighting for a top 6 spot” are not delusional statements. They are as factual as the three points we won on Sunday. Bitter scousers who have no business trolling on these sites say we are delusional and that we haven’t won anything. When did you hear any Geordie say “We’re going to win silverware this year”? All we are doing is celebrating a great win and a great season where we surpassed all expectations. And you being a typical, arrogant Liverpool fan can’t stand it and won’t let us have our day. Liverpool, on the other hand, have had a disappointing season, you were tipped for champions league and instead are struggling to stay in the top half of the premiership (FYI if we were only counting matches since Christmas you guys would be in the relegation zone)You’ve won the league cup which would be an achievement for a club of limited means like Newcastle but NOT for a club like Liverpool that has invested £120 million in its squad in less than two years. What’s a reasonable investment for a top 3 finish then? £500 Million?

In other words, we are not deluded, we have every right to be proud of how far we have come since 2009.And if we’ve only ever had 3 good players why do you keep trying to buy all of them? Also only an idiot would say that we got this high in the premiership by “freakish” luck. We currently have a better squad then you and that’s all their is to it. Good luck bidding for them this summer, if they do leave they certainly won’t go to Liverpool.

      • Tom Jones says:

Just the fact that Enrique said we’d never be there again – wind forward a season and we’re there

    • Craig says:

Oh this has really rang your bell hasn’t it matey boy

      • tommy d says:

getting worse each year…. we won nothing last year and didnt qualify for europe and have won one trophy already dis year potentially a second on d cards and have qualified for europe, is dat not a better season den last? and d expectation is what it is at liverpool because were liverpool! the most trophied team in the history of english football and the most successful english team in the history of european competition!, and im not talking ancient history, its only 5 years ago we wer in our 2nd champions league final in 3 years and ur ryt d big man was bang out of order for trying to cheat for d pen, but is stopping a goal with ur hand not a form of cheating aswell? or is that ok cas he plays for d toon, and as far as losing with dignity haha quite happily wen yee lot win with some, its not a liverpool fan who has set up this page

  • hebburnmag says:

Trying living in the present shankly back doors, u were great a long time ago but wont be again especially with kenny at the purse strings. And you wont finish above everton.

  • hebburnmag says:

Chelsea or arsenal dont bother us as much as everton bother you. Keep reading your books and watching your dvd’s of days gone by while the rest of us live in the present. We will sell you xisco for 20m to add to your firepower. Stroll on stroll on!

  • Patrick says:

Newcastle were better than Liverpool this year so they deserve to finish ahead in the league. You’re exaggerating saying he head butted Perch. If a Liverpool player fell down like that under no contact I’d be disappointed as I’m sure Newcastle fans were, well the real fans. I’m not too disappointed because I’m sure Newcastle would’ve rather finished below Liverpool and win a cup. I think Newcastle should’ve been down to 10 men and a penalty to Liverpool early on and the game would’ve been so much different.

    • hebburnmag says:

Ifs and buts patrick, stats show 2-0.

      • John says:

there was contact on perch pal it was minimal ill be the 1st to admit it and he shouldnt have hit the deck, turning away holding his face would have been a suitable reaction… i would rather qualify for Europa then win carling cup, mind you i would like a cup win… we have had many games this season which went against us we just get on with it. think back to our game V Chelsea David Luis shudda got sent off an it cost us , we moaned for a day or 2 but got on with it

  • Lfcman says:

Well done Newcastle- a great win and great season. Looks like you did prove players supporters n pundits wrong this season. A lifelong lfc fan but Happy to give due respect as we need to b gracious in defeat to one day be at the top level again. Would rather see u blokes up there than chelski n arsenal anywho. Better club, better supporters. YNWA

  • Mike Arms says:

Perch wasn’t headbutted, his forehead briefly brushed against Reina’s and his disgusting play acting got a fellow professional sent off.
Reina was wrong to confront him but Perch was a disgrace to go down on the floor as if he’d been hit in the face with a cricket bat.
It didn’t effect the game or the score but it does deprive Liverpool of their no 1 keeper for the FA cup semi final.
Just as a reminder to the Newcastle fans, the FA cup and League cup are trophies you can compete for and win sometimes.

    • Andrew says:

Judging by the last two years, I don’t think anybody will celebrate a league cup again!

    • toon for life says:

disgusting play acting eh, and i supose you think krul really did foul carrol dumbass

    • John says:

he was getting sent off regaurdless of perches dive… Wat about Andy Carrolls dive at the start of the game ??? how disgusting was that trying to get krul a red instead of hitting the ball in to an empty net

      • Tom Jones says:

While Perch dived, if he hadn’t of done and Reina stayed on the pitch it would have been an injustice

  • Ryan says:

I can’t seem to remember…when last did Newcastle win anything. Last I checked you don’t get a trophy for finishing 6th…or is there a trophy for the also rans these day too…lol! I suppose that’s the little “victories” you must hang on to as there no trophy to hang onto…lol! Newcastle fans wish they won the league cup even though they are belittling it…it would be something in a bare trophy cabinet…

    • HWTL says:

I’m SO sick of Liverpool fans belittling Newcastle’s achievement! Yes Ryan, sitting in 6th place less than two years after returning from the championship is a MASSIVE achievement and all your whinging and arrogance will not make that go away! Open your morning paper and it will say something like “5 Star Magpies sink Liverpool in crisis”. In September, Liverpool set themselves a target of Champions League qualification for next season and they have failed MISERABLY. So they have to console themselves with their precious League Cup as if that was all they really wanted (Aw, you beat Cardiff on penalties, WELL DONE! And you only spent 110 million on new players!) Want to know how much we spent to outclass you in the league? Something like MINUS 30 million! So that’s why the entire sporting world is heaping praise on Newcastle and laughing uncontrollably at Liverpool. Dress it up how you like, your season has been a failure. Ours has been astounding.

    • John says:

another bitter Fan go cry to Kenny he ruined your team

  • axwel says:

Wow it must mean a lot to Newcastle fans to be above Liverpool while Liverpool had worst season ever! Get real, Liverpool is in Europe next year, which is the same thing Newcastle is fighting for! So its just about better position on the table!! hahahaah pathetic Jose didnt made a mistake! He did good!

    • John says:

every year liverpool set out with their man focus to win the league … ur 8th …. everytime you got knocked out of a cup you claim we dont care about that we want a high league position and now your gloating over the reserves cup … Jose left for champions league not europa so yes he made a mistake he should have went to arsenal

  • Dave says:

Every team this year are so happy that Liverpool are failing this season despite the fact only 1 cup has only been won this season and yes it was by LFC what do this tell you LFC are the greatest club in this land and everyone knows it

    • John says:

were not happy bout liverpool …. we happy that andy an jose have seen the grass isnt always greener nothing about liverpool your fans are comin on here a belittling the fact were top 6 2 seasons after a relegation, so ur fans are making me enjoy your crisis your acting like the fuckin manks

    • Tom Jones says:

not the greatest team in the land any more my friend

  • The Don - South Africa says:

As a true LFC fan I read these deluded comments by Newcastle fans and thin what they smoking.. or drinking…Are you guys heavy on pot or beers. Fact is, living in South Africa, no one hardly know who Newcastle is, its just like a team that came out of the Championship.. like norwich. Yeh for them to finish 6th is a massive achievament. I dont think they will ever reach that again ever. So when they beat Liverpool they carry on as cut fowls, their player gets Reina dliberately sent off a damm disgrace. Yeh Newcastle youll setting the world alight.

    • HWTL says:

A Liverpool fan calling someone deluded? You’re absolutely right, Liverpool is a top four club, Dalglish is a fantastic manager who makes great signings. Carroll isn’t a flop. Suarez isn’t a racist. The Carling Cup is a better achievement than European football.

Why don’t you all piss off and go troll on the Wigan and QPR fansites? We’re not the only team that made you look like fools this season! 2-0

    • toon1892 says:

you all keep going on about perch i seem to remeber carroll ( the diver ) trying to get a pen and krul sent of. then KK ( lol ) saying he was of blance wot a joke he is get real and jog on

    • Craig says:

Classic mate. And what about Carroll DIVING? he could have got OUR goalkeeper sent off.

    • John says:

your all talking about how we will never get top 6 again … i recall hearing the same under sir Bobby we won get top 4 again an we repeated the feat 3 years on the bounce

    • Tom Jones says:

@The Don – when did you start watching the Premier League? 2006?

  • Flauvio says:

I think NUFC should get credit for having a good season whereas LFC are enduring hard times in the EPL. However, the new goal of NUFC – playing in Europe next year – may be in jeopardy due to LFC’s current shortcomings so I wouldn’t gloat too much as a NUFC fan. If LFC were to loose to Everton in the FA Semi and they then go on to win it, the current EPL table with Chelsea 5th, NUFC 6th, Everton 7th, and LFC 8th would lead to both Mersey side clubs gaining European football at the expense of NUFC. Guess CUP competitions does hold some value – other than adding trophees to your cabinet aeh? On another note, I think yesterdays experience will have opened Big Andy’s eyes for the fickle nature of football fans. Being a boyhood fan he must have thought NUFC fans would have given their former No. 9 some credit for taking them back to the EPL, staying there last season, and earning them a massive fee on his (some argue forced) departure. Instead he got abuse from the go and can now put aside any lingering loyalty he may have felt towards NUFC and their fans and focus on winning another trophee with LFC, who are already guaranteed a place in next years Europe League.

    • John says:

yea andy forced the sale after he was tapped up… he was told he would get 80k a week and told Newcastle to match it or he walks, hes a fucking mercenary ….. see we still have to play chelsea our fate is in our own hands ye bitter bastard an if we do miss out we wont blame every one else we will take responsibility for our short coming, liverpool need to do the same

    • birssy says:

Like you rolled out the red carpet for torres. He got you a bigger fee. Which you spent spent on a racist rat, and an over grown donkey that dives. Your clubs a has been and so what we are happy with 6th you will not finish higher than 6th in the next 10 years, your not in the same league as man utd, city, chelski, arsenal or spurs. Lol big club because of years gone by, we are a big club with no such history. You will never dominate the league like you once did. Crumbling at the foundations. Just sat at home thinking how have Newcastle done that they don’t blow money on Henderson or downing. We bought there biggest donkey and we won a cup that the only thing people talked about was Adams hitting a NASA space shuttle. Jokers keep clinging on to what once was. Nothing but bad press on and off the pitch.

  • James says:

lets be honest, yes newcastle would love to win a cup, and yes the toon would take beating a championship team on penalties and have an open top bus! however, to call perch a cheat is embarrassing, what does that make carroll for his dive?? typical lpool hipocrites. we’re gloating about our victory and thumping liverpool in the league because and the time we felt and still feeling that your failing king kenny was trying to buy all our players. dont thing any of our players will be going to the bin dippers now, they’re already at a big club! Maybe liverpool instead of having a go at the toon should look at their own players and management

  • John in Munich says:

I think all this LFC bashing has gone too far. Yes, we (NUFC) beat them yesterday and LFC did have a “bad day at the office”. There was also a few old scores settled as both Carroll and Enrique look a little foolush now. However, LFC have won a trophy this year and despite us having a great season and the future looking good, we would all swop two PL places for a trophy… I’m sure!!
Well done lads after a great game against an off-form L’pool.
    HWTL

  • Lee says:

I am a neutral and I do feel for Liverpool; but it disappoints me that Kenny always blames the players. He is not the same manager he was in the exceptional run last season when he took over. And who is responsible for putting 35M for carroll? I think lpool need to re assess the situation cause things are not looking good especially after the last game. Another point is I m fed up of watching players acting out after being shown a lot of belief from their managers, and if 35M is not a lot of believe then I do not know what is. carroll grow up and act like a man, some footballers are a real disgrace to the game.

  • chrisuae says:

In the first picture you can clearly see daylight between Reina’s forehead and Perch’s face. Perch’s reaction was disgraceful. Sports Direct United may finish ahead of Liverpool this season in the league, but Liverpool have a trophy, possibly a second and have qualified for Europe. So far Sports Direct United have nothing as usual.

    • HWTL says:

You completely ignore the financial side:

Spamfield spent 120 Million on their squad in 2011
Newcastle made a net profit and sold all its “best” players to “more ambitious” clubs.

Newcastle sits 11 points above Liverpool. All of Liverpool’s acquisitions bar jose enrique have flopped.

Don’t get mad at us you bindippers, its not our fault you guys suck, you wanted our best players for yourselves, we sold them to you and you still play like piss. That’s not our fault.Liverpool continue to dissapoint AS USUAL!

  • keith says:

Can someone tell Dalglish that NUFC have a cracking forward to play alongside muppet AC, will cost Kenny only 20 mill, his name is Xisco happy days
