Chelsea are seriously underestimating Newcastle

Yesterday saw yet another transfer rumour involving Newcastle United and Chelsea. Once again it was linking Cheick Tiote with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, this time alongside Newcastle’s outstanding young goalkeeper Tim Krul. It was The Independent who ran the story and reported a possible fee of £30 million for the pair, but if Chelsea or British newspapers think that Tiote and Krul will be available for £15m each then they are seriously mistaken.

First let’s take Cheick Tiote. The Ivorian midfielder has been immense for Newcastle and unsurprisingly the Toon tied him down to a new contract last year. This deal runs until 2017, so even at the end of the season it still has five years to run. Tiote is reportedly on £67,000, making Mr T one of Newcastle’s best paid players and the 25-year-old has continually indicated that he’s more than happy on Tyneside. Yet the article reports that £20m would be enough for Chelsea to secure him, but given the interest in him from rival Premier League clubs, it just wouldn’t.

While £20m for Tiote is undervaluing the combative midfielder, £10m for Krul is simply ridiculous. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been on fire this season and I honestly wouldn’t swap him for any other goalkeeper in English football. Added to that, the Dutchman only signed a new deal at the start of the month, keeping him at Newcastle for another five years. £10m wouldn’t even come close to getting Newcastle to part with their ‘keeper and while Champions League football would be attractive for Krul, there’s no guarantee that Chelsea will provide it next season.

So, either Chelsea are seriously underestimating how highly Newcastle rate their key pair of Tim Krul and Cheick Tiote, or this rumour is just completely wide of the mark. Newcastle chairman Derek Llambias has said he’d sell the Magpies’ best assets at the right price, but he won’t strip the core out of Alan Pardew’s team for less than the fee received for Andy Carroll from Liverpool. Teams will have to overpay to secure Newcastle’s stars and given the current market value of footballers, £30m certainly isn’t overpaying.

Many teams have underestimated Newcastle on the pitch this season to their error and off it Mike Ashley will ensure that teams have to pay top dollar for Pardew’s jewels.

Ever thought it’s because this is pure fabrication? I wouldn’t want either at Chelsea to be honest, we’ve already got Essien who doesn’t fit a passing game and give sloppy passes away in dangerous areas and without the ability to give dangerous free kicks away as well and Petr Cech is still by far the best goalkeeper in the league even though he’s made a couple of mistakes this season.

I also think that this artical is total bull. As for Jar head. Krul is by far and away the best goal Keeper in the league, and he’s still got another 10-15 years left as a pro, he will get even better! Chelsea’s week defence has outed Cech as an average keeper. I don’t expect any of our stars to leave in the summer. There is a buzz about the place, we are on the up, hopefully to challenge the top four in the next couple of years. If Pards can bring a trophy and champions league football before his current contract finishes it would be awesome and I think we have a chance of achieving it!

It is well known Tiote want to stay in Newcastle as he loves the place, also remember he offended Chelsea in the summer when they made a direct approach to him. By telling AVB to f@ck off, leave him alone, and show some class.

So last season it was Cessepool stealing all our star players & this season its supposedly Chelski… well fella’s, what can you offer them that we can’t?? It won’t be CL footy thats for sure & I think you’ll find we’ll be challenging you for a Europa League spot this season, so thats out of the question…. would it be more wages?? well considering how much debt Chelski are actually in, they’re struggling to meet the requirements for FFP as it is, so to try & increase their wage bill even more would most likely be out of the question…. so the only other thing is location?? well as we already know, Tiote doesn’t want to move to Landan, plus the fact he loves the Toon… so basically, the 3 things you’ll try to offer him to leave us won’t work… so better luck with some others players 🙂
